Too be honest, up until maybe a couple of years ago, not many people knew what gap insurance was and what it offered drivers in terms of cover. Being honest, most people were only concerned with their car insurance policy and probably expected this to cover everything for them.
However, gap insurance was an option that maybe wasn’t promoted as prominently as car insurance was and so up until now it wasn’t very popular. Obviously those within the car industry knew about this type of cover but transferring that over to their customers was a challenge in itself.
Let’s face it, if someone has just purchased a new vehicle, paid their car tax and insurance premiums, the last thing that they want to do is fork out more money for a new type of insurance cover that they have never heard of.
